Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 June 2026

Shoebox collects nothing. Nothing you do in the app ever leaves your device.

Shoebox is a daily game played with the photos already on your device. This page explains, plainly, what the app does and does not do with your information.

What Shoebox accesses

To build each day's roll, Shoebox reads your photo library on your device only: the photos themselves, and the date and location information iOS already stores with them. This happens entirely on your iPhone. Your photos are never uploaded, copied to a server, transmitted, or shared with us or anyone else. If you choose "Limited Access," Shoebox only sees the photos you select.

What Shoebox stores

The app saves a small amount of data locally on your device, never anywhere else: your completed rolls (scores, verdicts, and the dates you played) and your settings. This data lives only on your iPhone. Deleting the app removes it. The in-app "Reset the Box" option clears it at any time.

Sharing

Shoebox has no servers and no account system. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data, photos, usage analytics, advertising identifiers, or device information. If you use the Share feature, you choose what to share: "Scores only" shares a card with no photos; "With photos" includes the thumbnails you guessed, and those images leave your device through the system share sheet only when you explicitly choose it.

On-device intelligence

On supported devices, Shoebox may use Apple's on-device Foundation Models to write a short reflective line about your roll. This runs entirely on your device using only your scores — never your photos — and nothing is sent to Apple or to us.

Maps

Place names and the verdict map are provided by Apple Maps, governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

Children

Shoebox does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
